MIG are accredited by the Australian Hairdressing Council as RTO Select. This recognises MIG as a Hairdressing training provider of choice. MIG currently partners with 200 employers to deliver formal training to apprentices across QLD. These relationships have developed over many years.
Working in with the salon on the skills that are important to the business is the key to a strong relationship. Skills learnt that are not practiced and applied at work are lost to the salon and apprentice.

An apprenticeship involves working and training toward a SHB30416 Certificate III in Hairdressing for 3 years full time or 6 years part time. Juggling work, training and all the rest make an apprenticeship one of the busiest times of your life. The way we help is to provide each apprentice with:
- One person to manage the training and be your point of contact from beginning to end
- A plan and support that will ensure you make good progress and stay on track.
- A close relationship with your salon so you have the best opportunity to make a difference at work, learn the skills and practice, practice, practice.
The training is delivered differently for each salon and changes with the needs of the apprentice and the salon during the course of the apprenticeship.
Together with the employer and apprentice a plan is agreed which could include a blend of some or all of the following:
- College attendance – Which could include a varying mix of weekly, fortnightly, block or one off attendance for a particular need.
- Workplace support and assessment – Which could include 4 – 6 weekly individual salon appointments
- Dedicated support – By way of additional support from MIG, by phone, email or through the MIG student web portal.
Apprenticeship training is funded via by the state government. Apprentices are charged a nominal tuition fee that is set and capped by the state government. Unless part of the plan training will commence immediately after the apprentice starts. Why wait 3 months to get things moving.

Student and Apprentice workshops are conducted on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at MIG Course times and days are subject to change, therefore confirmation with college prior to attendance is recommended. Workshops which include practical activities will require students to bring all hairdressing equipment. All students enrolled with Matters in Gray training college are welcome to attend the workshops free of charge. An attendance fee will be required if you are not an enrolled student. All workshop learning materials and resources, including models, will be supplied by Matters in Gray. The workshops have been designed to offer students information and training that will improve their understanding, knowledge and practical skills in all aspects of hairdressing.
